This Environmental Services week, we say thank you to all of our EVS team members throughout Baystate Health for the outstanding job you do to keep our hospitals safe and clean for patients, visitors, and employees!
“I am a new Environmental Services (EVS) employee at Baystate Wing Hospital. I started in November of 2023 as a housekeeper in the Operating Room. What I like best about the work I do in EVS is the sense of importance my work has to everyone I work with. Not only is it important to me to keep our hospital clean, but I know it is important to my colleagues, our patients, and our visitors.
Everyone at Baystate Wing is so welcoming, and I love my team! I work the second shift and we are often assigned to different areas, but I spend most of my time in the surgical area, but I never feel like I’m alone. We have a great team that helps each other. Even when we are already very busy, we always find time to be there for each other. The best part of my day is when I arrive. I do my own personal operating room huddle "dance party" as we all call it, with my first-shift colleagues. Together, we make work fun as we touch base with each other about what is going on for the day.
I was very proud to recently learn that Environmental Services team was recognized by an outside vendor doing renovations in our surgical suites. They noted that we have one of the cleanest operating rooms they had ever seen. This was seen as a very important accomplishment, and our supervisor recognized our work during our daily huddle meeting. It made us all so proud, and it meant so much to me because that is where I work.
A fun and personal thing about me is that in addition to being a Baystate Wing housekeeper, I am a fiancé and a mom of two small boys. I am also a certified welder, steel fabricator, machine operator, and office manager for a wonderful family-owned structural fabrication company in Palmer.
I am proud to support the care provided at Baystate Wing Hospital.
